Terms of Service

Last updated September 2026 · Hens LLC · Washington, DC

These Terms govern your participation in Hens and your use of myhens.co (together, “Hens”), operated by Hens LLC (“Hens,” “we,” “us”). By joining the community, joining the app list, or attending a Hens event, you agree to these Terms, the Community Guidelines, and the Privacy Policy.

Please read Section 13. It contains a binding arbitration agreement and a class action waiver that affect how disputes between you and Hens are resolved.

1. What Hens is

Hens is a community for women in the Washington, DC area, built around plans: dinners, shows, classes, outings, parties, and whatever members want to do next. Hens is free to join. It is not a dating or matchmaking service, and it is not a substitute for professional services of any kind. Hens may welcome, decline, or later remove members in its sole discretion and is not required to give a reason.

2. Eligibility and your account

Hens is for women who are at least 18 years old. You agree to give accurate information when you join, to use your real name, and not to impersonate anyone or misrepresent your identity, age, or affiliation. The Hens community currently runs as a group on Facebook; your use of Facebook is also governed by Meta's terms, which we do not control. If you believe someone is using your identity in Hens, tell us promptly at betsy@myhens.co.

3. Free to join; ticketed events

There is no membership fee. Some individual events require a ticket or a per-person cost. For those, the price, the payment link, and any refund terms are stated on the event before you buy, and additional terms may apply to that event. Purchases are processed by the ticketing or payment provider named on the event, and its terms apply to that purchase. Hens does not charge you anything without telling you first.

4. Conduct

The Community Guidelines are part of these Terms. In addition, you agree not to: use Hens for dating or sexual solicitation; harass, threaten, or demean anyone; cold-pitch, recruit, fundraise, or use the member list or messaging as a lead list; post content you do not have the right to share; repost members' messages, photos, or profiles outside Hens without permission; scrape, copy, or collect member data; create an account to evade a removal; or use Hens for anything unlawful.

5. Your content and photos

You own the content you post in Hens. You grant Hens a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, display, and share that content within the community in order to run it. Photos are taken at Hens events and may be shared in the community, on myhens.co, and on Hens social media. If you would rather not appear, tell the host at the event or email us and we will take a photo down.

You are responsible for your content and represent that you have the rights to post it. Hens does not pre-screen content but may remove content at any time for any reason, including violations of these Terms or the Community Guidelines. If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without obligation to you.

6. Plans and meeting in person

Most plans are organized by members; Hens hosts some directly. Hens does not run background checks on members and does not vet venues, activities, hosts, or other members. You decide which plans to attend and whom to meet, and you do so at your own risk. Activities such as fitness classes, hikes, travel, and events at bars, restaurants, and venues carry inherent risks. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you assume those risks and release Hens from claims arising out of plans you attend and your interactions with other members, whether online or in person.

Hens is not a party to arrangements among members, including money members collect from each other for reservations, tickets, or shared costs. An RSVP is a commitment: if you say you are coming, the host and other members count on it.

7. Removal

Hens may remove you from the community, or restrict what you can do in it, if you violate these Terms or the Community Guidelines, if your conduct creates risk for other members or for Hens, or if required by law. We may also end memberships for other reasons with notice. You may leave at any time. Sections 5 through 16 survive the end of your membership.

8. Intellectual property

The Hens name, hen mark, website, design, and content (other than member content) belong to Hens LLC and are protected by trademark and copyright law. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or reverse-engineer any part of them except as permitted by law.

9. The Hens app

Hens plans to release an app in early 2027. Joining the app list on myhens.co does not create an account or a membership; it tells us you would like to hear when the app is ready. Additional terms will apply to the app when it launches.

10. Disclaimers

Hens, myhens.co, and the community are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hens disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Hens does not guarantee that plans will happen, that members will attend, that any member will respond to you, or that you will make friends. Hens is not an emergency, crisis, medical, legal, or other professional service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For crisis support, call or text 988.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hens LLC and its members, managers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to Hens, these Terms, or your interactions with other members, whether based on contract, tort, or any other theory, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for all claims relating to Hens will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid Hens in the twelve months before the claim arose or one hundred dollars ($100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the extent permitted by law.

12. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Hens LLC and its members, managers, employees, and agents from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your content, your participation in Hens, your conduct toward other members, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

13. Arbitration and class action waiver

Informal resolution first. Before starting arbitration or a lawsuit, you agree to send us a written notice describing the dispute to betsy@myhens.co, and we agree to do the same to the email you have given us. Both sides will try in good faith to resolve the dispute for 60 days after notice.

Binding arbitration. If the dispute is not resolved, any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms, Hens, or your membership will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this agreement. The arbitrator, not a court, decides all issues, including whether a claim is subject to arbitration. Arbitration will take place in Washington, DC, or by video or telephone if you prefer. AAA's rules govern fees; if the arbitrator finds your claim was not frivolous, Hens will pay the filing and arbitrator fees beyond what you would have paid to file in court.

Class action waiver. You and Hens each agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate claims of more than one member or preside over any form of class or representative proceeding. If this waiver is found unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim will proceed in court, and the remaining claims will still be arbitrated.

Exceptions. Either side may bring an individual claim in small claims court, and either side may seek injunctive relief in court to protect intellectual property rights.

Your right to opt out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing betsy@myhens.co within 30 days after you first accept these Terms, with your name and email and a statement that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms.

Jury waiver. To the extent a claim proceeds in court rather than arbitration, you and Hens each waive the right to a jury trial.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and by the Federal Arbitration Act as to Section 13. Any claim that is not subject to arbitration will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the District of Columbia, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will post the update on myhens.co and, where we can, let you know in the community or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, except for changes required by law, which take effect when posted. Your continued participation after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, leave the community before the change takes effect.

16. General

These Terms, the Community Guidelines, and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Hens about the community and myhens.co. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of Hens. You agree to receive notices from us electronically, in the community and by email. Contact us at betsy@myhens.co or at Hens LLC, Washington, DC.
